The BAYS Foundation works to strengthen programs and organizations that provide opportunities and increase access for underserved youth to participate in innovative organized sports and education programs in the greater San Francisco Bay Area.

A Message to Our Friends and Supporters

October 1, 2014

Dear BAYS Friends and Supporters,

On behalf of all of our Bay Area Youth Sports Foundation founders, directors, and board members, we write to let you know that after more than five fantastic years, the BAYS Foundation will be ceasing operations. We anticipate disbursing all remaining funds to grantees by the end of the calendar year.

In its short history, BAYS produced five outstanding San Francisco Fall Lacrosse Classic events, bringing ten top NCAA Division I men’s lacrosse teams to San Francisco to compete in front of tens of thousands of west coast fans and will have disbursed nearly $500,000 in direct support to numerous outstanding local youth sports and education organizations which have increased access and opportunities for children all over the Bay Area to participate in a variety of well-run programs.

We accomplished all of this with a very small group of dedicated volunteers, no professional staff, and a single event each year.

Ultimately, the costs of producing that event each year continued to increase, and without significantly raising ticket prices and filling more seats, we were in danger of raising very little money, or even losing money. As a charitable organization, that did not make sense.

All of us want to thank everyone who supported us since our founding, including those who made individual contributions, who donated their time or services, as well as everyone who supported our annual fundraising event. While the SF Fall Lacrosse Classic will be missed, BAYS leaves a great legacy in the programs that it has supported over the years which continue to flourish.
